For generations, the scientific community has stated that individual humans are the end result of the genetic makeup of their DNA, passed from both parents at the moment of conception. In this blog I’m going to explain, not only, why this is a false statement, but I’m also going to elaborate on how you, the individual, can influence your very being, on the cellular level.
Before I begin, I feel its only prudent to outlay the current understanding of what makes us humans individuals; on the genetic level. DNA, RNA, and proteins make us who we are, so let’s see what mainstream science has to say on these subjects.
What is DNA?
DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. Nearly every cell in a person’s body has the same DNA. Most DNA is located in the cell nucleus (where it is called nuclear DNA), but a small amount of DNA can also be found in the mitochondria (where it is called mitochondrial DNA or mtDNA). Mitochondria are structures within cells that convert the energy from food into a form that cells can use.
The information in DNA is stored as a code made up of four chemical bases: adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T). Human DNA consists of about 3 billion bases, and more than 99 percent of those bases are the same in all people. The order, or sequence, of these bases determines the information available for building and maintaining an organism, similar to the way in which letters of the alphabet appear in a certain order to form words and sentences.
What is RNA?
Ribonucleic acid, a nucleic acid present in all living cells. Its principal role is to act as a messenger carrying instructions from DNA for controlling the synthesis of proteins, although in some viruses RNA rather than DNA carries the genetic information.
What are proteins?
Proteins are large, complex molecules that play many critical roles in the body. They do most of the work in cells and are required for the structure, function, and regulation of the body’s tissues and organs.
Proteins are made up of hundreds or thousands of smaller units called amino acids, which are attached to one another in long chains. There are 20 different types of amino acids that can be combined to make a protein. The sequence of amino acids determines each protein’s unique 3-dimensional structure and its specific function.
There you have it, mainstream science believes that DNA is the blueprint that uses RNA to create the proteins we are all composed of.
Inherited at the moment of conception, we are the expressions of our genes, the victims of our DNA.
In short, the information can only flow from the DNA, to the RNA, and then to the proteins, which make us who we are, and give us our traits, at least, that’s according to the mainstream train of thought.
You may be wondering why this is relevant, and the answer is, you are the proteins. And although the central dogma still states that genes control our lives, and that we, as proteins, cannot go back and change our genes, I’m going to state why this is a false doctrine, and explain how you can take back control of your destiny.
In recent years science has made an astounding discovery, the expression of our proteins is influenced by our environment. From our diet, to our exposure to pollutants, and even our very perception of reality, epigenetic changes can help determine whether genes are turned on or off and can influence the production of proteins in certain cells, ensuring that only necessary proteins are produced; such as proteins that promote bone growth not being produced in muscle cells. Patterns of epigenetic modification vary among individuals, different tissues within an individual, and even different cells.
For example, a common type of epigenetic modification is called methylation. Methylation involves attaching small molecules called methyl groups, each consisting of one carbon atom and three hydrogen atoms, to segments of DNA. When methyl groups are added to a particular gene, that gene is turned off or silenced, and no protein is produced from that gene.
So how would one go about ‘turning off’ a genetic expression, like the variant of the FTO gene which is related to obesity?
It’s as easy as changing your diet.
Methyl-related nutrients are found in three groups of compounds: B Vitamins, Betaine and SAMe, S-Adenosyl-Methionine. In food sources, methyl-related nutrients can be found in foods rich in natural folate, or Vitamin B9, including strawberries, citrus fruits and leafy green vegetables. Good sources of Vitamin B12 are fish, meat, milk, and eggs. Choline oxidizes to form a source of methyl called Betaine, which is found in its highest concentration in beef liver. Toasted wheat germ and eggs are also excellent sources of choline, with cod, beef, brussel sprouts, broccoli, shrimp and salmon being good sources as well. Two large eggs contain 252 mg choline, nearly half of the recommended 550 mg per day for men.
Food isn’t the only way to manipulate your genetic expressions though, exercise, and your state of mind, can also have profound effects on your health and wellbeing.
For those with the so called, ‘obesity gene’, something as simple as regular exercise can lessen the impact of the FTO variant, and in some cases even ‘silence the gene’.
You see, our environment has an immense impact on who we are, on the cellular level. From the genetically modified foods being pushed on us, to being bombarded by radio frequencies, and magnetic fields, the human body is constantly adapting to survive.
The rise of cancer can, and is, often attributed to our highly acidic diets, and the radiation given off by devices such as mobile phones(aptly referred to as ‘cell phones’ by our American cousins).
Thankfully, the mutation within the protein that causes cancerous cell growth can be stopped dead in its tracks; regardless of the stage it’s at. All you need to do is change your diet to make your bodies PH level become alkaline. Practically no illness or disease can exist in an alkaline environment. Nature’s cure for cancer is, quite literally, a good diet. I would suggest looking outside of the typical channels for this information. Cancer, as a business model, is worth trillions, and much of the research is suppressed.
You can find out more on alkaline diets, and the foods you should eat, by researching the likes of, Dr. Sebi, an amazing man who has cured the likes of cancer, H.I.V, blindness, and more, all via an alkaline diet.
Cannabis can also help with halting, and killing, cancer cells. This is why the world is beginning to legalise medical marijuana. Although it’s the THC that combats cancer cells, not the CBD. For more information on this subject I recommend the likes of, Rick Simpson, and his array of medicinal cannabis, and which illness can be treated, or cured, with cannabis.
For those of you wondering how a non-physical, external, signal, like cell phone tower signals, can have detrimental effects on our physiology, you need look no further than your skin. After all, our skin is alive, and is made of proteins, and being the most external part of our being, alongside hair, our skin interprets many of the signals we use to interact with our environment. Temperature, for example, is our skins interpretation of the weather, hot or cold. Another example would be our sense of ‘touch’.
And much like our skin interacts with the environment, the magnetic field each human emits also interacts with the environment. The very frequency our brains function on can also be influenced by external signals, on the cellular level, by the likes of our perceptions, fear and stress being two examples; fear in particular halts cellular growth, so that energy can be used to flee a situation. This simple revelation also helps us understand the fear based media we suffer on a daily basis, keeping us in a state of disrepair. Yet it’s the frequency of our brains, the vibrational state of our being, our very perception of our environment, that brings me to the most profound aspect of epigenetic’s, the biology of belief.
I’m sure that many readers have heard the term, ‘placebo effect’, giving someone a sugar pill, for example, and telling them it will make them better. The persons sheer belief of the matter dictates whether or not the pill will “cure” them, and many studies have been done that prove the placebo effect to be a reality. Yet how many have heard of the ‘nocebo effect’, the brains ability to create illness where there is none, due to this very same power of belief? The very existence of these phenomena is conclusive proof that us humans have the ability to both heal, and harm, ourselves, as a result of our state of mind; our perception.
The way we perceive the world, what we were taught is right, or wrong, what we were taught is good, or bad, can be summed up as ‘nurture’. Our inherited genetic makeup can be summed up as ‘nature’. Together, nature and nurture influence the way our proteins interpret signals from our environment, diet, etc. This is known as, ‘signal transduction’, and is at the core of epigenetics.
To delve into this core is to understand that human beings are far more capable than we’ve been programmed to believe. Our conscious mind has reigning influence over both nature and nurture. Our conscious choices of what we eat, where we live, the way we perceive any given situation, all have an impact on our genetic makeup.
One only has to look to the achievements of, Wim Hoff, also known as, ‘The Ice Man’, to catch a glimpse of what humans are truly capable of. His discoveries into conscious breathing have enabled him to climb Mount Everest in nothing but shorts, and to swim in the, freezing, ice waters of the Arctic, for a time that would kill the average man. He’s clinically proven he’s able to consciously stimulate the nervous system, and not show any symptoms of a pathogen injected into him during a clinical study. He continues to achieve the “impossible” every day, as he teaches others to do what he can. Sometimes taking the elderly to the peak of K2, in nothing but shorts, as well as accumulating world records in various areas.
I myself have tried the, ‘Wim Hoff technique’, and I can stand behind his method. Having never done any kundalini work, I achieved a crown chakra burst 3 days into trying this technique. However, I feel as though my prior work with martial arts, and Buddhist meditation, played a role. That being said, the overwhelming feeling of peace that accompanies it is nothing short of beautiful.
Admittedly, science is only just beginning to unravel the subjects we’ve covered in this blog. Take ‘Neuroplasticity’ as an example, the ability to create new neural pathways, and ultimately forge a new personality, or conquer depression, anxiety, P.T.S.D, and addiction. There’s a bright future ahead, and as bright as that future looks, we must also recognise what we’ve discovered already; as its nothing short of miraculous. Conscious influence over the genetic level. The ability to change our genes through our diets, movement, and perception. The ability to connect with nature in ways we never knew possible. The ability to heal ourselves through thought. The ability to make ourselves, and remake ourselves, as we see fit.
So why do we continue to harm ourselves with pharmaceuticals? Why do we continue to poison ourselves with fake foods? Each of us has power, through choice. Each of us has the responsibility to make the right choice, the better choice, regardless of whether or not it’s easy. Allowing yourself to blame others for aspects of your life that you alone control has run its course. No longer can we, as a society, continue to ‘pass the buck’. It’s time we realised who we are, and what we’re capable of. To paraphrase a wise man, you are the master of your biology, but if you don’t believe it, then you’re going to buy someone else’s belief. If a doctor says you will die in 6 months, and you truly believe it, you will die in approximately 6 months, due to your belief that you will die, and the epigenetic reaction that very belief creates.
It’s time to walk away from the pharmaceutical industry, and back into nature. It’s time to eat well, and enjoy life. Everything you want can be yours. Addictions can be conquered, traumatic past’s can be seen through new eyes, and anxiety removed from the equation. It all starts, and ends, with a conscious choice. You can begin, right now, by making a decision to be the best you, the healthy you, the motivated and happy you.. or you can ignore the truth and blame the world. The choice, as they say, is yours.
